Welcome to my website.
I am an Associate Professor (profesor titular) at Carlos III University in Madrid.
I obtained my PhD in Political Science from New York University.
I am a scholar of comparative politics with a focus on political representation. My work tackles several key questions. 1) Whether citizens believe politicians when these may have strategic incentives to lie, 2) Which accountability and selection mechanisms succeed in enhancing good governance, 3) How recruitment and career incentives shape the interaction between bureaucrats and politicians, and 4) Under what conditions citizens prefer experts over career politicians in government positions.
My methodological approach combines observational data, survey and field experiments, and quasi-experimental approaches. With a geographic focus on Western Europe, my research has led me to also study other regions, particularly Latin America. My work has published in the Journal of Politics, the British Journal of Political Science, Comparative Political Studies, Political Science Research and Methods, Journal of Development Economics, the European Journal of Political Research, and Party Politics, among others.
